Roga Nidanam & Vikrti Vijnanam
Vision & Mission
Vision:
The Department of Roga Nidanam & Vikrti Vijnanam envisions the full integration of Ayurvedic diagnostic principles with modern diagnostic techniques to provide comprehensive and effective healthcare solutions. By harmonizing the time-honored traditions of Roga-Rogi Pareeksha (disease and patient examination) with emerging technologies in laboratory diagnostics and imaging, the department aims to enhance the understanding of disease processes and improve the quality of patient care. Our goal is to create a dynamic learning environment where students can seamlessly transition from theory to clinical practice, refining their skills as holistic practitioners capable of managing a wide range of medical conditions through both traditional and modern methods.
Mission:
The mission of the Department is to produce competent and confident clinicians who are well-versed in both Ayurvedic diagnostic methodologies and contemporary diagnostic practices. We aim to cultivate professionals who possess the ability to conduct in-depth Ayurvedic analyses of diseases, understand the subtle interactions within diseased bodily systems, and interpret modern diagnostic results with precision. These clinicians will be equipped to provide state-of-the-art patient management by combining Ayurvedic wisdom with technological advancements.
Additionally, the department is committed to expanding its capabilities and evolving into a fully-fledged Centre for Post-Graduate Training and Research in Roga Nidanam & Vikrti Vijnanam, contributing to the advancement of knowledge in the field of disease diagnosis and management.
Department Overview
The Department of Roga Nidanam & Vikrti Vijnanam serves as the foundation for students’ clinical and pathological understanding of diseases, especially within the scope of Kaayacikitsaa (internal medicine). The department introduces students to the techniques of Ayurvedic disease diagnostics and management, alongside modern clinical methods, equipping them with the skills to analyze and manage complex medical conditions.
Key areas of focus include:
Ayurvedic Diagnostics: Understanding Roga-Rogi Pareeksha (disease and patient examination) through Ayurvedic principles to diagnose and analyze disease processes.
Modern Diagnostic Tools: Incorporating laboratory diagnostics, imageology, and clinical examination techniques into Ayurvedic practice for a more comprehensive understanding of disease.
Patient Interaction: Emphasizing professional manners, ethics, and effective clinician-patient communication, enabling students to build rapport with patients and foster a compassionate approach to care.
Infrastructure & Facilities
Departmental Library: A well-stocked collection of essential books on pathology, Ayurveda, Roga Nidanam, and clinical medicine for quick reference.
Pathology Museum: A resourceful museum that displays specimens and models for demonstrative learning.
Clinical Lab: A laboratory equipped with essential tools for clinical examinations and diagnostic procedures.
Pathology Teaching Lab: A dedicated space for teaching and conducting practical demonstrations of diagnostic methods.
X-ray and ECG Facilities: For advanced diagnostic imaging and cardiovascular assessments.
Academic Activities
Bridge – Bench to Bedside Program: A unique clinical instructional program designed for second-year students. The program introduces students to clinical studies by teaching the fundamentals of Roga-Rogi Pareeksha and clinical examination during the first month. Students then engage with patients in the wards, observe disease processes, and practice diagnostic techniques.
Clinico-Pathologic Discussion Sessions: These sessions allow students to present cases, discuss diagnostic and investigative techniques, and explore Ayurvedic concepts like Samprapti (pathogenesis) in the context of modern diagnostics.
Clinical Problem-Solving Sessions: Encouraging lateral thinking, students engage in problem-solving related to common clinical disorders, promoting critical thinking and applied knowledge.
Clinical and Laboratory Rotatory Postings: Practical exposure in the teaching hospital and clinical laboratory, where students gain hands-on experience in disease diagnosis and management.
Clinical Services
Clinical Laboratory: The department operates a clinical lab with stringent quality control measures to ensure accurate diagnostic results.
Research Services
The department is dedicated to launching extensive research on specific pathologies, focusing on diseases with rising incidences such as diabetes mellitus, thyroid disorders, hypertension, and cancers. Research aims to explore Ayurvedic Samprapti (pathogenesis) to offer new insights and management approaches for these conditions.
Social Extension Services
The department participates actively in community service through its collaboration with the voluntary organization Prateeksha and the student group Student’s Initiative in Palliative Care. Faculty members engage in palliative care activities, providing compassionate care to patients and further strengthening the department’s commitment to holistic health.
Through this integrated approach, the Department of Roga Nidanam & Vikrti Vijnanam aims to shape future Ayurvedic clinicians who are adept at both understanding disease processes through traditional wisdom and utilizing modern diagnostic tools to offer effective, patient-centered care.
