Vision & Mission
Department of Rachana Shareeram
Introduction
The Department of Rachana Shareeram is dedicated to the study of the human body’s structure, both at the gross and subtle levels. It serves as one of the most fundamental subjects in the Ayurvedic curriculum, forming a solid foundation for the clinical subjects that students will study in subsequent years. The understanding of the human body’s anatomy is critical for students to grasp the intricacies of Ayurvedic medicine, ensuring they can apply their knowledge effectively in clinical practice. By exploring the structure of the body through both Ayurvedic and contemporary perspectives, this department prepares students to approach patient care with a comprehensive understanding of human physiology and pathology.
The department provides a blend of theoretical and practical training, integrating ancient Ayurvedic wisdom with modern anatomical studies to offer a holistic view of the human body. This training is further enriched through hands-on experiences in the department’s state-of-the-art infrastructure, which includes a well-equipped museum, dissection hall, cadaver room, and library.
Vision
The vision of the Department of Rachana Shareeram is to provide students with a deep and well-rounded understanding of the human body’s structure, both from an Ayurvedic and contemporary scientific perspective. We aim to cultivate professionals who are equipped to apply anatomical knowledge to both traditional Ayurvedic healing practices and modern clinical approaches. Through this department, we envision students becoming adept in understanding the complexities of the human body and using this knowledge to enhance patient care in their future medical careers.
Our goal is to create an environment that fosters learning, respect for the human body, and an appreciation for the intricate balance between Ayurveda and modern science in understanding human anatomy.
Mission
The mission of the Department of Rachana Shareeram is to offer a comprehensive education in the structure of the human body, integrating both Ayurvedic anatomical teachings and contemporary scientific concepts. We are committed to providing our students with a solid understanding of the body’s internal and external structures, which forms the basis for diagnosing and treating illnesses.
We aim to:
- Integrate Ayurveda with Modern Anatomy: Deliver thorough teachings on both the Ayurvedic and contemporary aspects of human anatomy, fostering a comprehensive understanding of the body’s structure from multiple perspectives.
- Practical Learning: Provide students with practical training in dissection and anatomical exploration through well-equipped facilities, ensuring hands-on experience that reinforces theoretical knowledge.
- Enhance Clinical Competence: Through focused teaching on vital points (Marma), osteology, histology, and other aspects, ensure students develop the skills to apply anatomical knowledge to clinical diagnosis and treatment.
- Respect and Ethical Practice: Instill respect for the human body and ethical practices by guiding students through meaningful experiences, such as the cadaveric oath, and promoting a professional attitude towards anatomical study.
- Public Awareness: Promote public awareness of human anatomy and its importance in healthcare through outreach programs like the “Sukhashaishava Project” and public visits to the anatomy museum.
Department Overview
The Department of Rachana Shareeram provides students with both theoretical and practical training in the structure of the human body. The department is equipped with modern teaching tools, including a fully furnished museum, dissection hall, cadaver room, and departmental library, creating an ideal environment for students to gain both knowledge and hands-on experience.
Key Areas of Focus:
- Ayurvedic Anatomy: Teaching the Ayurvedic concepts of human anatomy as described in classical texts such as the Susrutha Samhitha, Ashtanga Hrudaya, and Charaka Samhitha. The department emphasizes the understanding of human structure through Ayurvedic principles, including the study of vital points (Marma) and their clinical applications.
- Contemporary Anatomy: Offering comprehensive training in general anatomy, embryology, neuroanatomy, osteology, histology, and other anatomical subjects, providing students with a modern understanding of human body structure.
- Marma Training: Special focus is given to the study of Marma points, essential in Ayurvedic practice. Expert training sessions are conducted to ensure students understand their clinical relevance.
- Practical Learning: Students gain practical exposure in the dissection hall, where they can explore human anatomy hands-on. The department is equipped with dissection tables, bone sets, histology slides, and microscopes to support practical learning.
- Ethical Practice: At the beginning of their dissection curriculum, students take a cadaveric oath to honor the cadaver and maintain respect throughout their studies.
Infrastructure & Facilities
- Anatomy Museum: The museum is equipped with an extensive collection of human organ specimens, histology slides, articulated and non-articulated human bones, models, and charts to support both practical and theoretical learning.
- Dissection Hall: The dissection hall is fully equipped with large dissection tables and all necessary instruments to support practical training in human dissection.
- Cadaver Room: The room houses two tanks that can accommodate more than six cadavers at a time and includes facilities for easy washing, lifting, and transit of cadavers.
- Department Library: The library contains a wide range of texts related to both Ayurveda and contemporary anatomy, ensuring students have access to comprehensive learning materials.
Academic Activities
- Small Group Learning: Weekly sessions designed to provide clarity on concepts taught in theory and practical sessions, encouraging personalized attention and in-depth understanding.
- Cadaveric Oath: A special event where first-year students take an oath to respect the cadaver and approach anatomical studies ethically and responsibly.
- Public Awareness: The department actively participates in public education, allowing local educational institutions to visit the anatomy museum and learn about human anatomy through curated tours.
Social Extension Services
In collaboration with the Sukhashaishava Project conducted by the Baala Chikitsa department, the department organizes awareness sessions about human anatomy for students from nearby educational institutions. These initiatives help foster a broader understanding of human anatomy and its significance in health and wellness.
The Department of Rachana Shareeram strives to offer a balanced, respectful, and comprehensive education in human anatomy, fostering professionals who are well-prepared for clinical practice and who approach their work with the highest standards of knowledge, respect, and ethical conduct.
